I think it’s fair to say that my dog saved my life. I would come home from grade school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Essex. Our little apartment was empty. My father was absent. My mother was working. My older brother and sisters were either in school or at work. But my dog, King, was there.

Phil Maher’s faith never wavered. When he died last month at the age of 93, it was his faith that saw him through death to eternal life.

In recent months we have seen the destructive power of water, especially in Texas and then Florida. Yet, we are born in water. And we know that we can all live longer without food than without water.
