Practically everyone is quirky and philosophical, and nearly everyone dies violently in the rapid-fire thriller “Caught Stealing” (Sony).

Both the strengths and the problematic aspects of the animated adventure “Ne Zha II” (A24) are revealed by a look at two of its main characters: the figure of the title (voice of Crystal Lee) and his enemy by destiny but best friend by choice, Ao Bing (voice of Aleks Le).

Moral squalor is the order of the day in the dark comedy “Honey Don’t!”. While clearly intended as an homage to film noir by director and co-writer (with Tricia Cooke) Ethan Coen, the rancid proceedings also borrow all too heavily from the sleazy world of 1960s and 1970s grindhouse fare.

Taken as a whole, the horror film “Weapons” (Warner Bros.) tends to be subtle in its approach to intriguing and unsettling viewers.

More than two decades later, the duo reprise their roles while screenwriter Jordan Weiss raises the stakes with further complications in “Freakier Friday” (Disney). While not a knee-slapper, the sequel is at least mostly wholesome.

For most of its running time, the intermittently amusing comedy “The Naked Gun” (Paramount), a sendup of the hardboiled cop genre, qualifies as a fun spoof that’s appropriate for most grown-ups. Yet its one sequence of utterly tasteless sexual sight gags will leave discerning viewers anything but entertained.
