Sister Kathleen Mary O’Brien dies at 81

A funeral Mass for Sister Kathleen Mary O’Brien, a Sister of Notre Dame de Namur, was offered Aug. 29 at Our Lady of Victory in Arbutus. Sister Kathleen died Aug. 15 in Massachusetts. She was 81.

Born in New York, Sister Kathleen entered the Community of the Sisters of Notre Dame on Aug. 14, 1960, and made her first vows on May 4, 1963 and her final vows on Aug. 9, 1968.

Sister Kathleen served at Our Lady of Victory School in Arbutus (1966-67), St. Ursula School in Parkville (1970-71), Trinity School in Ilchester (1975-76), Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn (1978-79), John Paul Regional School in Woodlawn as principal (1978-82), Stella Maris Health Care in Baltimore (1982-83) and Villa Julie Infirmary in Stevenson as administrator (1985-92). Over the years, she also held various positions with the Maryland Province of her religious community. She was also very involved with Notre Dame Mission Volunteers in Baltimore from 1998 to 2014.

Elsewhere, Sister Kathleen served in the Archdiocese of Washington, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Archdiocese of New York.
