Jesuit Father Robert Braunreuther, who ministered to the homeless in Baltimore, died Jan. 6. The former Loyola University Maryland campus minister was 90.

A funeral Mass will be offered Jan. 21, 10 a.m., at Chapel of the Holy Spirit in Weston, Mass.

The Brooklyn, N.Y., native spent his formative years in Fairfield, Conn., before earning an athletic scholarship to Boston College. He later studied philosophy in Germany before joining the Jesuits and teaching German at Fairfield Prep in Connecticut.

He was ordained a priest in 1965 and worked two years toward a doctorate at the University of Chicago before ministering and lecturing on psychology and theology for 24 years at Boston College.

In 1996, Father Braunreuther accepted an invitation from his friend Jesuit Father William Watters., to come to Baltimore and work with men experiencing homelessness. Three years later, he took on retreat ministry at Faulkner (2001-08). After a sabbatical in Chicago, he became a campus minister at Loyola University Maryland, serving also as minister in Arrupe House (2009-15). He then returned to Fairfield as minister for the Jesuit Community (2015-18).
