Francisan Sister Marie Therese Carr dies at 88

An 11 a.m. funeral Mass for Franciscan Sister Marie Therese Carr will be offered Jan. 13 at Assisi House in Aston, Pa. Sister Marie Therese died Jan. 8. She was 88 had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 67 years.

Sister Marie Therese was born Mary Florberta Carr in Philadelphia. She entered religious life in 1955 and professed her first vows in 1958.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from what is now Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg and a master’s degree in English from St. Michael’s College in Vermont.

Sister Marie Therese ministered for 25 years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. She taught at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Essex; St. Lawrence School, Baltimore; St. Stephen School, Bradshaw; Immaculate Conception School, Towson; St. Joseph School, Fullerton; The Catholic High School of Baltimore; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School in Essex.

Elsewhere, she served in Delaware and Pennsylvania.
