Sister Marianne Muscott, who served in Baltimore for three decades, dies at 83

A funeral Mass was offered Nov. 20 for Sister of St. Francis of Assisi Marianne Muscott (formerly Sister Stella Maris) at St. Francis Convent in Saint Francis, Wisc. Sister Marianne died Nov. 12 at age 83.

Born in Queens, N.Y., she professed vows in 1964 as a Sister of St. Mary’s Abbey, Mill Hill, England (later the Franciscan Sisters of Baltimore). The Baltimore congregation merged with the Wisconsin-based Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi in  2001.

For nearly three decades, she served in various ministries in Baltimore, including spiritual direction, retreats, counseling and pastoral psychotherapy.

Sister Marianne Muscott served at St. Joseph Spiritual Center (1974-1980); Francis House in Baltimore (1986-1991); Instrument of Peace Ministries at St. Clare School and Parish in Essex (1991-2001); and the Little Portion (2001-2003).

In 2003, Sister Marianne moved to Milwaukee, where she served as a pastoral psychotherapist, provided home visits and individual and family counseling for 15 years.
